FAQs
How long will play therapy last for?
This depends on your child as play therapy is led by their process. Ideally, a commitment to a minimum of 12 sessions is preferable to fully engage with the therapy.
What ages do you work with?
Generally between 4 and 11 but I am always open to discussing this if you feel your child would benefit from play therapy. Children use the space in different ways – some will access drawing or sand, some children like to talk and some children just want to play!
How will I know it is working?
When we meet together we will think about some realistic targets and outcomes for the therapy. I will also carry out some assessments at the start and end of the therapy to help monitor for signs of change during the therapy. I am also happy to incorporate any assessment measures preferred by the placement.
You might see changes or shifts at home and other adults, such as teachers may also comment on changes they have observed.
We will meet together regularly to review their progress and at the end of the therapy to discuss the outcomes and to plan for any further support.
What does a play therapy room look like?
Here are some photos of the play therapy room. You will see there are a variety of toys, dressing up objects, sand, clay, paint and an area for messy play. Each child uses the toys and space in different ways. Often the first few sessions involve exploring the toys and materials and getting to feel comfortable in the space.
